Our smartphones have become a huge part of your lives. As
the years have progressed, phones have replaced a lot of the things in your
pockets.
Today’s smartphones can do pretty much everything. They can
be a calculator, you can check your email, you can use them as maps, and you
need to pay for food, scan a barcode at the local fast-food shop and
voilà. And these are a few uses cases
that have been a standard for like 5 - 6 years now and we’ve come a long way
since then too.
But as the years progressed, our phones became increasingly
fragile. Remember those bricks phone back in the day? Or the legendary Nokia
phones that are known for how rigid and life-proof they were. Phones nowadays
have become increasingly fragile. One drop and now you need to repair crack phone screen because there’s a huge spider-web crack all over your screen.
And these repairs can be quite expensive.
Now what you need to do with your phone depends on the
condition of your phone. Does the display still work? How about the touch screen
controls. All these can be huge factors that decide what you need to do next.
If the display and touch are working. Then it is not an emergency as you can
still use your phone.
1.
Check with your insurance
Most modern smartphones have insurance right from the shop
you buy. Apple has its AppleCare, other companies also provide insurance for
their phones. The first thing you need to do is check whether the insurance
covers your phone screen repair as you can save a lot of they do.
2.
Use an old phone for the time being
Now maybe you had insurance and you have sent your phone for
repair or maybe there wasn’t. And you still have your phone but the display or
touchscreen isn’t working.
In all of the above cases. One thing in common is that you
don’t have a phone to use. How do you fix this? Maybe buying a new phone right
away is not an option. In most cases, just using an older phone, for the time
being, is the best option.
Now you might not have an old phone. No worries, there might
be a family member or a friend who does. You can ask them for the phone
temporarily, while you look into the problem.
3.
Fix or replace
In some cases, the phone might be too old and repairing your
phone might not be the best option. Electronics lose their value very fast
nowadays. Maybe your phone isn’t even worth how much you will end up sending on
it. In such cases. Maybe you should consider replacing your phone.
4.
Fixing your phone yourself
With the rising phone repair prices, a new type of community
took birth. The DIY phone repair community. This community has grown
significantly over the years. There are a ton of channels on YouTube and many
special repair kits that come with all the tools you might need for your broken
screen repair.
Be advised that phone repair prices are high for a reason,
taking apart a phone is not an easy task and you might end up with a more
broken phone then what you had in the beginning.
5.
Buying a replacement
If you have decided that getting your phone repaired is not
a feasible option for you then you might want to buy a replacement. You can
sell your broken phone for cheaper to fund the new replacement you’re going to
buy. There are many online websites that let you sell your broken phone for
cheaper. Many people out there are looking for these phones for spare parts and
you will be able to sell your phone easily if you price it right.
